INAUGURATION DAY 2013
As I watch the ceremonies for a second time today, I am exceedingly happy today as we celebrate the inauguration of our 44th President of the United States of America, Barack H. Obama, on Martin Luther King Day, January 21, 2013. Just writing these words nearly brings me to tears. We are celebrating President Obama's re-election. Our country chose him for a second time.
I am very proud today to be an American. This day is what we marched for. What our ancestors died for. Shed blood, sweat and tears for.
The inaugural day festivities are outstanding, starting with a prayer by Merlie Evers then the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir, wow. More tears. James Taylor, Kelly Clarkson and Beyonce. A 21 gun salute. 800,000 fellow Americans standing in the cold to watch the parade and the inauguration.
Sonia Sotomayor swore in the Vice President. I just love her, she is so real, so down to earth. During the Balls Jennifer Hudson, Alicia Keyes and Jamie Foxx entertained us some more.
Mrs. Obama and the First Daughters were just mesmerizing. She shows the country and the world what young women should look like, dressing the girls in ladylike dresses, none of that hootchie momma stuff we usually see in the stores. The women learned from four years ago to dress for the cold, in stylish boots, coats and gloves. Dr. Jill Biden, might consider a lower heel in the future, I know she's short but, ouch! She was tipping down the street during the parade. I felt her pain.
Our Vice President Joe Biden was entertaining all throughout the day. He gave the Secret Service a run for their money during the parade, running back and forth to shake hands with well-wishers. He gave us a few laughs during the dull and boring luncheon. He was full of one-liners at the Balls. Some think he is going to run in 2016. I don't know how old he'll be, but I hope his health holds out. It would be between him and Hillary, if so.
We have to wonder about her health, since she's had a concussion and had to take some time off from work. I noticed today she was wearing flats and holding on to President Bill Clinton's arm for dear life as they negotiated the stairs of the Capitol Building on the way to the inauguration.
I think that in the next four years President Obama will be a harder on Congress in pushing through his bills. He tried being a nice guy the last four years. Sadly the Republicans had only one thing in mind, Get Obama out of office. They would not pass any of the President's bills, they have dragged their feet for four years. So much blatant bigotry, hatred and disrespect for the office of the President.
I hope he uses his bully pulpit to get some things done. Things that have been dragging on for four years. For me whatever President Obama says, goes. God Bless these United States of America.
You've done an excellent job observing this once in a lifetime day. I am so glad that I was here to witness it. Our ancestors would never have believed that such a day would or could happen, the national celebration of one black man as we inaugurated a black president on the same day.
